Google Chrome beta vs. IE8 beta 2
Tim Finin, 12:16pm 2 September 2008Suddenly this slashdot item, IE8 Beta 2 Fatter Than Firefox and XP, posted today gains in relevance.
snydeq writes “Consuming twice as much RAM as Firefox and saturating the CPU with nearly six times as many execution threads, Microsoft’s latest beta release of Internet Explorer 8 is in fact more demanding on your PC than Windows XP itself, research firm Devil Mountain Software found in performance tests. According to the firm, which operates a community-based testing network, IE8 Beta 2 consumed 380MB of RAM and spawned 171 concurrent threads during a multi-tab browsing test of popular Web destinations. InfoWorld’s Randall Kennedy speculates that Microsoft may be designing IE8 for the multicore future. But until your machine sports four or eight discrete processing cores, IE8 will remain ‘porcine,’ Devil Mountain’s Craig Barth says.”
Last week it was widely reported that Firefox would soon get a new JavaScript engine that could result in an order of magnitude performance increase by using a compiler.
Maybe this is a case where things come in threes, with Microsoft, Mozilla and now Google all preparing major new browser releases.

I have installed Google Chrome and found browsing fun with its simple Gtalk like Simplicity. I’ll stick with FireFox for now until Chrome gets some useful plugins to enhance it.

The Chrome install was very easy. I noticed how much fast GMail was immediately, at least 50% that FF3 (although I really love FF3!). Picasa was also faster, but this could be due to the Picasa 3 upgrade. Google Maps worked fine, with zooming and panning being noticeably faster, but not like GMail. Probably the most noticeable difference was in the predictive browser box – extremely fast and especially relevant. I haven’t tried IE8, but the footprint is four times larger than Chrome, and I don’t have the latest and greatest processor to burn through all that code.

You are lying. Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 is fast like a rabbit, lightweight like a feather, and cleaver like no one of you.
Surrender to Microsoft Empire.
Long life to Windows!
Death to Linux (and Cuba)!

My site (with quite a bit of javascript) displayed trouble free ‘out of the box’ for I.E.8. Still can’t make it display correctly in Chrome.

Google Chrome is good for sure because it is fast. But it has lots of downs under the hood and not as great as IE 8 Beta 2 or Firefox.

Think about it and then decide. For now, I’ll use FF and IE8.

Have Both of MSIE 8 beta 2 and Chrome beta, and you all have to remember that they are both not “bug-free” and have issues with Java, ActiveX, Flash functions and popups….
My idea – don’t change your browser until all is working 100%
