Professor Ashok Agrawala has been with University of Maryland since 1971. He holds joint appointment with CS department, EE department, and also University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computing Studies (UMIACS). He also holds the position of Director of MIND (Maryland Information and Network Dynamics) Lab, where a lot of innovative technologies are being developed in partnership with industry. Prof. Agrawala has written seven books and over 200 technical publications. He has supervised more than 30 PhDs. He is famous for the Ricart-Agrawala algorithm for distributed mutual exclusion
