Biography:
Blumenthal received his Ph.D. degree in Physical Oceanography from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology/Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in 1987. Arriving at Columbia University soon after, he was a Senior Staff Associate at LDEO when he became the IRI Data Library Manager in 1997. Blumenthal's background is in simplified climate models and climate model predictability, and methods of data/model analysis. His present interest is in distributing Earth science data for public use, and the use of semantic technologies to improve that process. He is the author and maintainer of the IRI/LDEO Climate Data Library, which makes climate data highly accessible over the World Wide Web (WWW).
