Bjorn Frogner

As the Entrepreneur-in-Residence at bwtech@UMBC's Clean Energy Technology Incubator, Bjorn helps startup companies in the clean energy field. Bjorn has more than 35 years of experience across a broad range of technologies; much of it related to IT and energy. During the first ten years of his career, he developed advanced monitoring systems in support of operations of nuclear power plants. He then was the principal developer of a heat rate diagnostic expert system for nuclear and coal-fired power plants. Bjorn also did much R&D in the area of computer network performance and was Principal Investigator on several artificial intelligence applications funded by Department of Energy and other U.S. government agencies. In total, Bjorn has been the PI on 10 SBIR projects. He has strong technical and business experience in software management, design, development and marketing.
Bjorn has a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. He has experience as an engineer, manager, executive, entrepreneur and professor. He has co-founded five startup companies and has traveled many times to China in support of a group of entrepreneurs promoting U.S. technology to Chinese power companies. Bjorn has published 26 referenced papers in technical journals and conference proceedings. As a part-time professor for 10 years, he taught entrepreneurship, macroeconomics and MIS.
