Maria Eleftheriou is a Reseach Staff Member at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center. She received a B.S. degree (with honors) in physics from Saint Joseph's University. She then attended Brown University, where she received her M.S. degree in engineering in 1995 and Ph.D. in theoretical and computational chemistry in 1999,

She subsequently worked as a postdoctoral fellow in Biomolecular Simulation Center at Columbia University. Since joining IBM, she has worked mainly on the BlueGene project. Dr. Eleftheriou has contributed, in particular, to the design and the implementation of parallel algorithms and parallel programming models, studied the performance of parallel scientific applications for the BlueGene/L architecture, and applications of the high performance computing to scientific problems of biological interested.
