Home Networking has been around for many years and promised as the future of modern homes and the basis for future pervasive computing. Unfortunately, despite the R&D and industry intentions, many of these promises are still out of reach for many users. This talk outlines from an industrial R&D perspective some current home networking technologies in Samsung and other companies that try to deliver some of these promises. Based on these existing technologies, an overview is given of two projects in Alan's group trying to develop next generation technologies to deliver a pragmatic step towards some of the promise of home networking.
