Viral Parekh is currently working as a Software Design and Development Engineer at Cougaar Software Inc. Here he is involved in creation of network distribution commercial software products and custom commercial and government solutions based on advanced intelligent agent information technology and open source solutions. He participates in all aspects of an agile software development process, including the design, development, and testing of cutting-edge Java-based applications for the supply chain and enterprise markets. He also sets operational specifications and formulates and analyzes software requirements for Java-based distributed applications.
He was a Masters student at UMBC. Dr. Jack Gwo and Dr. Tim Finin were his advisors. His thesis involved use and application of ontologies and Semantic Web technologies for environmental sciences and engineering domain.
Viral has also worked as a Research Engineer with the Semantic Web group at Hewlett Packard Labs, Bristol. Here he developed an intelligent text search library called OLucene which is an extension of open source Jakarta Lucene.
