Presence Monitoring System

November 1, 2003 - May 1, 2004

Objective. The objective is to develop a distributed system that is capable of monitoring user presence in an office environment and reporting the updated information to the registered context brokers. This monitoring system will use different sensing techniques to detect user presence, for example, detecting the network connections made by Bluetooth devices, monitoring user logins on the UNIX servers and desktop computers, reading the RFID tags attached to the devices that a user carries, and scanning the video images produced by the wall-mount cameras. In addition to sensing, this system will use inference as a means to predicate user presence, for example, by reasoning with the appointments that are scheduled in a user
